Emily Galdámez is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in graphic design. Born in 1993 in Hull, Canada, she is currently based in Montréal, where she has devoted the past year to exploring acrylic painting. Her expertise in advertising design influences her ability to conceptualize and articulate compelling narratives through her artwork.
She studied at Cégep Marie-Victorin where she discovered her passion for visual arts through an exploration of the intersections between graphic design and traditional art. Driven by a desire to deepen her understanding of both art and her cultural heritage, she traveled to El Salvador, where she reconnected with her family and immersed herself in the local art scene. Upon returning to Montréal, she continued her artistic journey and currently works in a gallery, further enhancing her knowledge and perspective on the art world.
Emily infuses her work with elements of her identity, drawing from both her Salvadoran and Québécois heritage. Through the use of vibrant colors, rich textures, symbolic patterns, and culturally inspired iconography, she captures the warmth and vitality of her Latin American roots while incorporating minimalist design elements and natural tones that reflect her Québécois background. This dynamic blend of cultural influences lies at the heart of her creative process, celebrating and uniting both traditions in her artwork.
Her work is inspired by artists such as Studio Lenca and Flor Garduño, who both center their practice around themes of heritage and storytelling.
